Using several of the most populated social media sites, including Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace and Twitter, the Great Social Media Race will track the amount of money raised from visitors to each social media site. Aside from being the central point of the Great Social Media Race, this blog will also be gauged as a fundraising tool. The Great Social Media Race is an important experiment in determining the effectiveness of social media, but it also helps a wonderful cause. Tom Bell, who aside from being Jennifer’s father, served in Vietnam, served more than 20 years with the Virginia National Guard, and worked 25 years as a detective on the Arlington County Police Force. He lost his battle with leukemia on April 25, 2006. Team Tom, having been selected to participate in the LLS’ annual Man/Woman campaign against 19 other individuals in the Washington, D.C. metro area, is competing from April 1st – June 13th to raise as much money as they can for the LLS. The person who raises the most wins the title of Man & Woman of the year.

Want to turn $25 into $50?

How often do you get to double your money with the click of a button? Rarely, if at all…

Now is your opportunity to do so. As we grind out the last week of the Great Social Media Race, Team Tom is offering to match any donation that comes in via Facebook through Friday, June 5 up to a total of $400. Your $5 donation could turn to $10 in an instant – all helping the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society fund blood cancer research.

Why are we asking you for help? Jennifer Keating is still in the running to be crowned the winner of LLS’ Man/Woman of the Year campaign. In honor of her father, Tom Bell, who passed away from Leukemia, Jennifer was selected to participate in the LLS’ annual Man/Woman campaign to compete against 19 other individuals in the Washington, D.C. metro area to raise as much money as possible for the LLS.

Help take Jennifer and Team Tom to the top. Donate what you can, be part of a winning team, and help reduce the statistic that a child or adult is expected to die from leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma every 10 minutes, representing six people every hour or 145 deaths every day.

We have exactly 10 days left before we tally the results of the Great Social Media Race and Facebook is still lagging behind. To date, the Great Social Media Race has raised $4,826.70 in support of Jennifer’s campaign – only $365 donated through Facebook. Our group continues to grow every day and we still have a chance to take the lead. Donate $5 by Friday and have it instantly doubled. Visit our secure link today:
